What Is Leadership Foundations?
Stepping into a leadership role can be both exciting and daunting. Many new leaders report feeling overwhelmed and underprepared. Organizations are often unsure of who to promote and when, frequently promoting individuals for their technical expertise but overlooking the foundational skills required to lead people effectively. The Leadership Foundations program is designed to address this gap, offering practical tools, actionable strategies, and tailored support to help new and aspiring leaders thrive.
This program focuses on building the skills and confidence needed to navigate the unique challenges of leadership. Each session is structured to provide hands-on learning, self-discovery, and opportunities for behavior change. Participants will commit to starting one new leadership behavior and stopping one ineffective behavior after each session, with accountability partners to reinforce their application. Supervisors of participants will receive coaching forms to ask key questions and support their team members’ growth. By the end of the program, participants will have a personalized Leadership Development Plan to guide their ongoing journey as leaders.
Who is it for?
What You Will Learn
This training is delivered in 3-hour sessions virtually for six weeks, or in 4-hour sessions delivered in person over five weeks. In these sessions you will cover:
- Session 1: Making the Shift to Leader
Leadership isn’t just a promotion—it’s a new way of thinking. Designed for first-time leaders or those preparing to step into the role, this session helps participants redefine what leadership truly means. They’ll explore how to balance supporting and challenging their team, understand the critical differences between managing tasks and leading people, navigate the shifts in responsibilities and relationships that come with leadership, dispel common myths new leaders believe, and identify strategies to overcome them. - Session 2: Developing Self-Awareness
Every leader must start with self-awareness. Using the DiSC© behavioral profile, participants will gain an introductory understanding of their natural leadership tendencies, strengths, and blind spots. This session also provides insights into the diverse personalities on their team and demonstrates how to adapt their approach to connect more effectively with everyone. This foundational self-discovery sets the stage for building stronger relationships across the organization. - Session 3: Effective Communication
Clear, purposeful communication is essential for any new leader to build credibility. This session helps participants recognize and overcome common communication barriers by practicing active listening. They’ll learn to give constructive feedback using a simple yet powerful method to ensure every interaction strengthens relationships and drives performance. - Session 4: Assessing & Developing Skills
Leadership development is a continuous journey. When mastering any new skill, individuals move through distinct stages of development, each requiring tailored support. This session helps participants identify their own current stage of leadership skill development. They will also gain introductory experience in applying this developmental framework to evaluate and train others, ensuring they meet team members at their developmental level. - Session 5: Prioritization
As a new leader, competing demands can feel overwhelming. Participants will analyze these demands to align team efforts with broader organizational goals. They will apply prioritization techniques, evaluate delegation strategies, and practice time management methods through interactive exercises. By the end of this session, participants will construct personalized Leadership Development Plans that outline actionable steps for growth and focus areas.

Training Reviews
My team has actually noticed a difference. They are setting daily goals for themselves. Along with that they recently went through the time management class Express offered. I’ve used some of the interview questions from class. My 1:1’s are more productive and I’m working on stating my intent more clearly to my team.
