Purpose Driven Leadership Training

Who is it for?

This leadership training program will benefit anyone who is interested in enhancing their leadership, communication, or teamwork abilities. The curriculum has been developed to be relevant to leaders at all levels and to help enhance the way these managers interact with and lead their teams. Every class has a unique group of participants from various backgrounds, including: manufacturing, human resources, engineering, finance, operations, and executive leadership.

What You Will Learn

This program consists of 4-hour sessions that take place in person over 7 weeks or virtually over 6 weeks. In these sessions you will cover:

Session 1: Leadership Essentials
We start by reflecting on the traits that define effective and ineffective leaders by analyzing the impact of both the best and worst boss behaviors. Participants will explore the core elements that build trust within teams and identify their own strengths and areas for improvement in trust-building. The session concludes with the development of a personalized action plan to strengthen leadership behaviors that foster and maintain trust.

Session 2: Discovering Your Management Style
In this session, participants will gain insight into the personal drivers behind their management approach by identifying the priorities that shape their style. Through guided reflection, they will examine what aspects of management energize them and which ones are more draining and explore their style of directing and delegating. Using their DiSC® Assessment results, participants will also explore how their DiSC style influences their daily management practices.

Session 3: Emotional Intelligence
Participants will begin by taking the Emotional Intelligence 2.0 assessment to gain a baseline understanding of their EQ (Emotional Intelligence) skills as well as recognizing and adapting to the emotions of others. The session will dive into the four pillars of EQ—self-awareness, self-management, social awareness, and relationship management—and examine the difference between reacting and responding in emotionally charged situations. Techniques for reframing disruptive emotional reactions will be explored, along with the Radical Candor model to approach conflict with clarity and care.

Session 4: Assessing Skills, Confidence, & Motivation
One size does not fit all when it comes to managing others. This session equips participants with tools to evaluate where individuals are in their learning journey by understanding the stages of skill development. They will learn how to clearly communicate task expectations and diagnose both skill levels and motivational drivers. The session emphasizes aligning leadership style with an individual’s current skill, confidence, and motivation levels to ensure effective support and development.

Session 5: Coaching Conversations and Giving Feedback
Participants will learn and apply the CIA (Control, Influence, Accept) coaching model to structure meaningful development conversations. They will practice asking open-ended questions that promote reflection and growth, and gain skills to prepare for and hold courageous conversations. The SBI (Situation-Behavior-Impact) feedback model will be reviewed to guide effective feedback delivery, including a hands-on activity to write out and practice delivering corrective feedback.

Session 6: Team Dynamics
This session focuses on understanding the natural stages of team development—forming, storming, norming, and performing—and how leadership must evolve at each stage. Participants will assess how their approach supports team progress and review a case study to identify key dynamics within a team. The session provides practical strategies for aligning leadership actions with the needs of the team at every phase of development.

Session 7: Capstone Session
The purpose of this session is to integrate all the skills and knowledge learned from the previous sessions in a case simulation. Participants will work in teams to solve the situation. Facilitator and team will debrief the experience and give feedback.
