What Are Outplacement Services?
Outplacement services give employees who are leaving your organization the coaching and tools they need to find their next role. You provide it at separation, much like severance pay or continued health coverage. You may also see it called career transition services or employee transition services. The name changes, the purpose does not.
Confidence is the goal. Someone who has not searched for a job in ten years is walking into a process that has changed completely, and that gap shows up in their resume, their interviews, and how they talk about why they left. Frontline pairs each participant with a career coach and a plan that closes those gaps. Employees are not handed a login and left alone. They work with a person.
Care is the other half. Every organization eventually reaches a point where a role has to change or go away, and how you handle that moment says more about your culture than any policy document. Investing in outplacement is an intentional choice to keep supporting people through that change. It carries the commitment you made when you hired someone all the way through to their next opportunity.
Frontline is headquartered in Grand Rapids, Michigan, and works with organizations across the country. Coaching happens virtually, onsite at your location, or at our office. Delivery is flexible to meet the needs of the company and the employee.
How We Help
We are part of a family of companies that includes Express Employment Professionals and Specialized Recruiting Group. That connection means departing employees receive coaching grounded in current workforce and workplace trends, not general job-search advice.
You choose the level of support that fits the role, the person, and your budget. Outplacement is priced in tiered packages with set timelines. Every package includes one-on-one coaching, and we report participation and progress back to you so you can see what your investment produced.
Career Transition Support for Departing Employees
- Resume Support: A resume developed for current best practices and to hold a hiring manager’s attention
- Interview Preparation: Practice interviews and coaching on how to respond confidently in different scenarios
- Virtual Presence and LinkedIn Review: A profile that shows up in recruiter searches and reflects the person’s experience
- Search Support: A job search strategy with target roles, target employers, and a networking plan
- Placement Support: Job search guidance to identify opportunities and when relevant and introductions to recruiters with our partner companies, plus guidance on evaluating and negotiating an offer
- Assessments: Insight into strengths, work style, and fit to help participants aim at the right next role
- Tools and Worksheets: Practical resources participants keep and use long after the program ends
Executive Outplacement
Senior leaders search differently. The process takes longer, and the conversation is as much about positioning as it is about a resume. Executive outplacement extends the coaching engagement, adds market and compensation research at that level, and puts the focus on network activation and board introductions rather than applications.
Group Outplacement and Layoff Support Services
When a reduction affects a department, a shift, or an entire site, we scale to match. Group outplacement covers everyone at once with shared workshops plus individual coaching, and we can be onsite the day of notification so people have somewhere to go the moment the meeting ends. Layoff support services extend to the leaders running those meetings and the team that stays.
Support for Your Organization
- Notification Planning: Help thinking through timing, messaging, and who says what
- Manager Preparation and Support: Coaching for the leaders who have to deliver the news and continued support as they lead a changed team through what comes next
- Team Development: Training and facilitation that helps the remaining team adjust to shifted roles and new expectations so they can find their footing together
Benefits of Outplacement Services
Outplacement is often described as a benefit for the person leaving, and it is. It is also one of the more practical things you can do for your business.
Losing a job is disorienting, and the first stretch usually goes to processing the news rather than searching. A coach and a clear first step shorten that gap, so participants start applying sooner and aim at roles that fit.
Leaders dread these conversations, mostly because they walk in with nothing to give. Being able to say “here is the support waiting for you, starting tomorrow” changes what that meeting feels like for everyone in the room.
The people who stay pay close attention to what happened to their coworkers. When they hear that those coworkers got help and landed somewhere good, they stop refreshing job boards. When they hear nothing, they draw their own conclusions.
Any organization can look people-first when business is good. Supporting someone’s next step after their role with you has ended is a different kind of choice, and it is the one people remember. Former employees write reviews, answer questions from candidates, and give straight answers at dinner parties. How you handled their exit shapes that answer for years, and it reaches the people you will want to hire next.
Employees who feel discarded are more likely to escalate. Employees who feel supported are usually focused on what comes next. A professional transition process lowers the temperature in an already tense situation.
